Pots in Progress

Here are some photos of pots in progress. Pottery requires alot of patience. There are many stages to go through when taking the clay from a wet ball of earth to a finished, functional work of art.

After wedging the clay, to remove any air, we make balls in sizes specific to the piece we are making. Most beginning potters start with about 3/4 lb and increase with experience. Very large pots can be made with 50 or more lbs. Most of our pots are 10 lbs and under.

Carley's first time centering 2 lbs. of clay.

Each pot is weighed before throwing to ensure consistant sizes.  Free form pieces are less precise allowing them to remain organic in nature.
